Ushna is a casual Dining Indian restaurant located in Souk Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai. We decided to try the food at Ushna on a whim as we were in tired after exploring the souk. We did not check the Zomato rating or any information regarding the restaurant which we usually do and went in without any idea about the place.
We were welcomed by a lovely host who seated us on a swing seat. My first impression of the restaurant was “colorful”. There were pink and glittery cushions on the swing seats. Instagram worthy tables.
The place has beautiful Indian Ambience with beautifully carved wood wall hangings adorning the walls. The soft music played in the background added the charm to the atmosphere. They have outdoor seating as well.
After we were comfortably seated, the waiter took our order.
For starters, we ordered the Murgh Pakoda and Masala Papad as accompaniment. The Murgh Pakoda is Charcoal grilled chicken tikkas fried & served with stuffed chilies. The waiter served the dishes with a pleasant smile and introduced the dish and the chutneys that were served. I loved the tomato chutney and the sweet mango chutney. The Murgh Pakoda was crisp on the outside and soft inside. The chicken was well grilled and tasted great. The masala papad was normal, had less onion and tomato toppings than usual.
For the main course, we just had the Vegetarian Dum Biryani. The Biryani was totally great, rice and the perfect blend of Veggies and spices cooked to perfection. The Raitha was also good. It is good that the waiters explicitly ask about the amount of spiciness we want for each item. We both prefer spicy food and the expected spicy level Biryani was served.
As we both (Mr. M and I) do are not a great fan of desserts, we did not order any.
The quantity is great but the presentation lacks uniqueness. Overall the food was good, but not extraordinary, considering the price bracket of each item in the menu. One would get much tastier food for the price. 10% municipality tax is also a letdown too. A visit to this restaurant (2 people) will leave you short of 300-350 AED.
My overall ratings:
Value for money: 3/5
