The first thing that comes to your mind as you enter the Saleems of Delhi in Karama ( opposite the Dubai Frame) is the bygone grandeur of Moghul Era. The huge wooden main door, the chandelier, the vintage finish seating, portraits of the Moghul Kings and queens are sure to get you transported back in time. Sure enough, this restaurant serves the best Mughal cuisines in town.
We had a blogger meetup at the restaurant and good food= good time, right?
So we started off with the mocktails. I ordered the Lime Cola, which is a blend of cola and lemonade. Also got to try the coco culie and tornado twist. I liked the tornado twist.
Next was the starters. There were three vegetarian and three non-vegetarian varieties that were served. It was a festival that day, I could only try the veg cuisines.
The dishes were :
Kaju Mutter Pudina Tikki– Tikkis made of Peas, Mint and cashew nuts. This was very spicy and very flavorful.
Kumbh tikka – stuffed mushrooms with garlic and cheese and cooked in tandoor. The spices were on point and the dish was above average.
Dahi Ke Sholey: One of the yummiest thing that I have had in recent days. This is the hung yogurt spiced, stuffed in a soft shell and deep fried. This was a repeat order for us.
My other friends were raving about the non-veg starters.
For the main course, we had rotis with Paneer Mussallam, Dal Bhukara, and Handi Veg ( the veg options).
The Paneer Musallam was one of the highlight dishes. The Paneer in it was perfectly done.
Dal Bukhara was served in a small bronze bucket and was really velvety and smooth was so close to the home-made taste, a perfect combo for the rotis.
The Veg Handi was a classic treat and delectable.
Next came the Veg Dum Biryani – The biryani tasted alright, the flavors were great, but didn’t have the dum flavor to it.
For desserts, I tried the Gulab Jamoon and the Kulfi Falooda. The Gulab jamoons were hot and yummy. The Kulfi falooda also was good. Since I am not a desserts person, I just had a bit of each of them.
My overall ratings: 4.6/5
Interiors and ambiance: 5/5
Value for money 4.5/5
Overall, Great food, cool ambiance and helpful staff. I am surely coming back with my hubby to try the non-veg items. Dahi Ke Sholey and Paneer Musallam are definitely a must-have when you are here.
