Chhappan Bhog is a household name when it comes to sweets and Vegetarian Delights. Recently I had an opportunity to visit their Karama Branch for a tasting event.
The restaurant is situated in the food street and easily accessible. The staff is really friendly and welcoming.
We started off with the with mocktail: There were two options Mango Mania and Pistachio Breeze. I chose the Mango mania as I am not a fan of the pista flavour. The Mango Mania was really refreshing with a hint of mint flavour in it
Next came the chaats Sev Batata Puri and Dahi Batata Puri: I am a chaat lover and these two were great! A perfect blend of sweet, savory and tangy! I loved the Dahi batata puri more.
For the starters, we had Karari Bhindi ki Chaat: This was the showstopper dish for me. The shredded and fried Okra were absolutely delicious and crispy.
Achari Paneer Tikka: ChhappanBhog prepares their own paneer which is why they are so soft and fresh. The paneer tikka was very flavorful and tasty.
Hari Bhari Tikki: This tiny tikkis were served with the mint chutney. It was an average dish.
We also tried the south Indian items on the menu :
Idli Vada and Paper Masala Dosa: Idli Vada was served with chutney and sambhar. The idlis were soft and fluffy and the vadas were crispy and tasty. I loved the Mangalorean chutney ( I am from Mangalore and the chutney tasted so authentic). The paper Masala Dosa was really huge and one Dosa is enough for two people. Overall the South Indian dishes were really good.
We were also introduced to their special deluxe thali which is price around 25-30 AED. The thali consists of 6-8 dishes ( sweet included), your choice of bread and also a rice dish. I order this thali from their discovery garden outlet.
For the north Indian main course, we had Paneer Tikka Nawabi, Chole Bature, Achaari aloo, Subz kadai, Daal Tadka, Jeera Pulao, Vegetable biriyani and Assorted bread basket.
I am a fan of their Chole Bature and also loved the Paneer Tikka Nawabi and Achaari Aloo. The Vegetable Biriyani was served with the raita and was very aromatic and tasted excellent. The Jeera Pulao and the Missi Roti tasted good too
By now we were really full to the brim. But one can never say no to the desserts. So, we had the Kesar Ras Malai and Gulab jamun with Rabdi. I only tried the mini gulab jamuns and they tasted heavenly. The combination is to kill for.
Chhappan bhog also takes corporate gift orders for their sweets and savouries for all the occasions. I love their Mithais.
My overall ratings: 4.5/5
Interiors and ambience:4/5
Value for money 5/5
I am coming back to this restaurant for more chats and north Indian dishes 😊
Thank you socialism for the invite
